The icebreaker: What was the best thing that happened to you this week?

Kate got smiled at, Eric likes poop jokes, Julie didn’t fail her test, Marc liked Gary’s lecture, Debra got stuff done, Noelle liked vegan tacos, Hanna thought school sucked, Kathie yummed the bake sale, and I (Sarah) liked when the power went out

Hanna told people about SASHA Farm:
- there’s farm(food)-type animals
- volunteering means farm work (and petting)
- usually 10 - 4
- email Hanna for ride info (laurhann@umich.edu)

and Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary:
- there’s rabbits
- volunteering means feeding (and petting)
- starting soon
- contact Sarah for ride info (sarahkl@umich.edu)

We watched “Meet your Meat”

For general human rights interest, Kate announces that Angela Davis is speaking about gender structures in the prison industry next Friday.

Eric recounted some of ideas that were encountered at last weekend’s conference.

Julie talked about tabling for Thanksgiving. PETA is donating a video and pamphlets with vegan recipes and against turkey-eating.

Postering is suggested. Sunday, 5pm at the Union is decided.

It is decided that we will table the Monday before Thanksgiving (Nov. 24). Julie will work on a location. Email Julie with times you will be there (julieiro@umich.edu)

Someone says that the Great American Meat-Out is in March, are we going to do that? It would be super cool if dining halls didn’t serve meat. Or at least let us put up signs. Maybe we can get a nutritionist to speak. We’re going to do it

Eric points out that we need more funding. Discussion about where to find funding. More people should follow up on ideas about how to get more. No specifics are decided.

Noelle wants to know what’s next with the Primate campaign. Eric suggests reverse citations on Dr. Woods, letters to his sponsors, and letters to the Daily (interested? email martians@umich.edu) World week for animals in labs is in April, should we protest labs again?

Sarah is interested in presenting local Christian groups about vegetarianism. Email her for more information (sarahkl@umich.edu)
Oh yeah, there are books in the library.

Kate wants to start tabling at shows. This Thursday, she is leaving at 4 to table at a show in Detroit. Email her if you are interested in attending. (katemc@umich.edu)
Cookies are good. Email Martians@umich.edu if you want to make cookies for them to sell.

Closings:

Eric liked the meeting, Julie wanted movie discussion, Marc got sad, Debra enjoyed meeting people, Noelle liked the meeting too, so did Kathy, Sarah nodded, and Kate wants a squeaky-gavel.

Next meeting is Thursday November 20th in the Union. Yummy vegan food and good times. For other information about anything please email MARS we will answer your questions.
